Hollywood director Christopher Nolan has revealed that he gave Ryan Coogler the confidence to shoot his film “Sinners” using IMAX cameras.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to The New York Times, Nolan said that Coogler called him before committing to the IMAX format for the project. According to Nolan, Coogler seemed unsure at first, but Nolan encouraged him to trust his instincts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Ryan called me before he committed to IMAX,” Nolan said. He added that he had first introduced Coogler to the format years earlier by inviting him to a screening of his own film “Dunkirk” in IMAX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nolan said Coogler appeared to be looking for reassurance that shooting his vampire film this way wasn’t a risky decision. “I think he was sort of looking for someone to tell him it wasn’t crazy to shoot his vampire film that way. I was like, no, I’d love to see that,” Nolan told the publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The advice paid off \u2014 “Sinners” went on to become a major box-office success, while cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for her work on the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nolan is now taking IMAX technology even further with his upcoming film “The Odyssey,” which is reportedly the first feature film ever shot entirely using IMAX cameras. He said he hopes other filmmakers will follow suit and explore the format as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
