Netflix Drops Trailer for ‘The Bombing of Pan Am 103’ — One of History’s Deadliest Terror Attacks Gets a New Series

Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming limited series The Bombing of Pan Am 103, reigniting global interest in one of the most devastating acts of aviation terrorism in history — nearly four decades after the tragedy unfolded.

The six-episode series revisits the 1988 Lockerbie disaster, in which Pan Am Flight 103 was brought down by a bomb over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, killing all 270 people on board. The trailer has already generated significant attention on social media ahead of the show’s release.

A Different Angle on a Familiar Tragedy

Unlike previous screen adaptations of the Lockerbie bombing that focused on the victims and their families, this series centres on the investigative teams who worked tirelessly to unravel one of the most complex international criminal cases in modern history. The story begins at the crash site in Scotland, where evidence was painstakingly collected, and follows the case through the landmark trial in 2000 and all the way to a fresh indictment in 2022.

Writer Gillian Roger Park said the aim of the project was not simply to recount a tragedy, but to give audiences a deeper understanding of the historical and legal forces at play. She also noted that her own research revealed aspects of the investigation she had not previously known.

Star-Studded Cast

The series features Conor Swindells as Scottish police officer Ed McCusker, Patrick J. Adams as FBI agent Dick Marquise, and Merritt Wever as Catherine Thurman. The supporting cast includes Peter Mullan, Tony Curran, Eddie Marsan, Phyllis Logan, Lauren Lyle, and Douglas Henshall.

The score has been composed by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, and all six episodes were directed by Michael Keillor.

Still an Open Case

What makes this release particularly timely is that legal proceedings related to the bombing are still ongoing, with at least one suspect still facing prosecution. For many of the victims’ families, the Lockerbie bombing remains an open wound rather than a closed chapter of history.

The Bombing of Pan Am 103 premieres globally on Netflix on July 30, 2026.
